Dharma Movie Night
O Lucky Man (Part I)

7:30 p.m.

Remember actor Malcolm McDowell from A Clockwork Orange, the man you loved to hate because he acted so ultra-violently. O Lucky ManWell, you will really feel for him and feel with him in this surrealistic film where he stars as Michael Arnold Travis, a most empathetic of characters tossed about on his journey through life as a coffee salesman across Europe. Lindsey Anderson's deliberately Buddhist film serves as a vehicle for a riotous romp upon the wheel of Samsara.

A monthly event, Dharma Movie Night features a film that, in some way, deals with Buddhist themes. Films are shown at Ekoji Buddhist Sangha, 3411 Grove Ave., beginning at 7:30 on selected Saturday evenings. Dharma Movie Night features in previous years have included The Matrix, Jacob's Ladder, Groundhog's Day, Enlightenment Guaranteed, Himalaya, and The Wizard of Oz.

Dharma Movie Night affords us the opportunity to cultivate the practice of viewing cinema through a Buddhist lens. Coming together as sangha, the supportive community of practitioners, we enrich both our human experience and our dharma practice together. This, in turn, transforms and ennobles each step of our journey along the Eightfold Noble Path as movies become vehicles of Dharma, vehicles of the teaching. And most importantly, it’s fun to have Saturday Night at the Movies…..
